Fight Back! Part 1

When I was a kid, I use to love watching Wrestling.  I would see how the bad guy would beat up the good guy and when it seemed like the bad guy would win, the good guy starting fighting back and would win the match.  I’m pretty sure we’ve all seen the Rocky’s movies of how this underdog boxer wins every fight.

There’s something about life that makes me think of a fight.  This is the fight of our lives and this is no “reality show” or fake stuff, we’re in the real deal.  Life is tough!  There are a lot of things that happen in life that seem to knock you down.  And no matter how much you cry, the “bad guy” keeps on pounding you.  And that’s exactly what happens.  The enemy will not let down until you can no longer get back up.  But here is the thing that he forgot: God put something in every person that no matter how much you’ve taken, you can always get up and fight back.

I’ve seen people get right back on their feet and life has thrown hardships and conflict their way.  Things that would make you want to end your life, but they get right in the fight again.  Weird, huh?  I’m pretty sure you’ve gone through things that for a moment brought you down, but now you’ve been able to overcome them.  Maybe you think you’re strong or that got the brains to pull it off.  I would like for us to think of it in a different light.

There’s a story in the Bible that has drawn my attention time and time again.  Read on with me and see this wonderful story told in just two verses.

2 Samuel 23:11-12 (NIV): “Next to him was Shammah son of Agee the Hararite. When the Philistines banded together at a place where there was a field full of lentils, Israel’s troops fled from them. But Shammah took his stand in the middle of the field. He defended it and struck the Philistines down, and the LORD brought about a great victory.”

Now this is a real good fight.  All that’s missing from this is the intense music as the hero fights off the bad guys and claims victory.  Imagine what it would have been like for Shammah to see his fellow warriors fleeing from the enemy and left standing alone in a field to defend it.  I’m not sure if the field was his or not, but it belong to Israel and he was not going to let the enemy steal it from him.  He did what most of us would not have done.  We, most likely, would have fled like the rest and allow the enemy to steal that field.  Something must have happened to Shammah.  There was a stir in his spirit that prompted him to stand his ground.  Did he know he was going to defeat his enemies? Not likely, but he was going to die trying.

We tend to give up so easily on the things we say we love.    Are you really fighting with all you got to protect what you say is yours?  How many times we loose a blessing because we decided to give up.  God gives us a ministry and we take it as a burden and can’t handle the pressure and run.  Does that sound like a warrior to you?  NO!  Let me tell you something, God didn’t make weaklings! He made you to be strong and to be an overcomer.  He created you to be a champion, to always win.  He expects you to win because He design you that way!  And not only that, He was already given you all the power you will ever need…the Holy Spirit.

To be continued…..
