The importance of seeking God

Text: 1 Chronicles 22:19 (NLT)
“Now seek the Lord your God with all your heart and soul. Build the sanctuary of the Lord God so that you can bring the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant and the holy vessels of God into the Temple built to honor the Lord’s name.”

Why is it important to seek God?  Why do Pastors and Church Leaders make such a great deal for us to seek God?  In fact, why does the Bible tell us in different occasions to seek God?  I believe the answer to those questions lies on this text.

First, you need to realize that you are a spiritual being.  Your true nature is spiritual and being that you are spiritual, you are prone to worship something.  The thing is that God wants you to worship Him!  But since we all have a free-will, God allows us to choose what or who we worship.  You worship something always.  It can be your job, money, your family, idols, things, whatever you dedicate time, effort, and love, that’s your god.  So, you are worshiping something, even if you’re not at Church.

Second, you need to realize that you become a Temple of the god you worship.  If your god is money, then you will store greed, pride and other spirits in you.  If God is your God, then you will store everything good in you.  But you are a temple of the god you worship.  What is in you?  What are you storing?

Third, to bring order and stability back to your life (temple), then you need to allow the true God in reside in you!  Only then will you bring back the balance in your life.  This text reveals what happens when you build up the sanctuary (temple) of the Lord.  Only after the temple is built, can the Ark of the Covenant and all the holy vessels be put in.  The Ark of the Covenant has always represented the Presence of God and the holy vessels are those things God gives you (gifts, talents) to help others.  When you build the temple, you are inviting His Presence to reside in you continually.

Here is the key to having your temple built and kept up: Seeking the Lord your God with all your heart and soul.  Only this can allow His Presence to live continually in you.  And as long as His Presence is in you, your gifts and talents are used unselfishly to helping others.  This is why God wants us to seek Him always.  When the Israelites would bring the Ark of the Covenant (God’s Presence) with them, their enemies didn’t stand a chance to win.  This is what happens when we have His Presence dwelling in us, our enemies don’t have a chance in defeating us.  Now, do you see why it’s important to seek the Lord?  You can’t accomplish much without Him!  We need Him!

So, if your temple is half way done, or has been destroyed by allowing other gods to defile it, then it’s time to rebuild!  Begin by putting things in order.  Begin by seeking God.  Allow all of His goodness and blessings to reside in you.  And most importantly, allow His presence to dwell in you.  You are a carrier of His manifested Glory!  Think about that!
