“How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?”

Our generation is trying harder and harder to be different.  They try new trends of clothes, music, and art, but still feeling the same as everyone else.  So, what makes you different from the millions of people living on Earth?  I believe Moses stumbled into that question and also found the answer.  You might think that it’s your talent or your gift that makes you different from everyone.  But, how many people can do the things you do?  It isn’t your talents or your gifts that make you different.

The answer lies in God.  Moses was telling God, “You have to go with us, because only then we will be distinguished from all the other people on the face of the Earth.”  The Presence of God in us, makes us different to everyone else.  This is why we choose not to live like the world.  If it wasn’t for His Presence in us, we would be like everyone else.  What’s the difference between a murderer and a Christian?  It’s not that the Christian is better, it’s because of the Presence of God in the him.

The difference is God.  His Presence makes an impact on our lifestyle.  So, we must ask the question, if you are still living like everyone else (acting, speaking, and thinking), than how much of His Presence do we really have in us?  When you have His Presence in you, it will effect every area of your life.  When there’s no change in your lifestyle, then you aren’t different from everyone.  Nothing makes you different EXCEPT His Presence in you.

I have a hard time believing people who say they are Christians just because they own a Bible or go to Church.  If you are not different than the world, then God’s Presence is not in you.  If you find acceptable to what the world finds acceptable, then God’s Presence is not in you.  And this is not a matter of legalism or conservatism, it’s a matter of honesty.  You and I are God’s representatives here on Earth.  If we are to represent Him, then I know He wants us to act more like Him and not like the world that is against Him.  Why would you choose to live the lifestyle of the people you are suppose to change?

Will His Presence distinguish you from others or has the lack of His Presence made you like everyone else?  Remember, we are not suppose to be like everyone else.  We are to be ONLY His.  That’s why God emphases holiness so much in the Bible.  Holiness means “set apart”.  Evaluate your life.  Do you act, speak and think like the world?  Do you accept everything the world accepts?  His Presence is what makes you different…distinguished.
